Sensor and camera business is huge
Sony CEO was giving an update on his company at IFA 2015 trade show and he touched on eXtended Dynamic range, Sony cameras and his highly successful sensor business.
Kazuo Hirai introduced the new Xperia Z5 series including one with a 4K display, a standard 5.2 and a compact 720p screen. What peaked our interest was that the company kept mentioning HDR on a 4K TV. Samsung has mentioned it yesterday as something you will need for UHD Blu-ray players but Sony added it has its own version of HDR for TV. HDR is supposed to give more details to already detailed 4K video.
Kazao calls it eXtended Dynamic range and it will introduce it with the TV new models. This will probably be a 2016 technology and we would expect that both Samsung and Sony will talk about it at CES 2016. This is important and if you were an early 4K adopter and your TV doesn't have this and you are out of luck. You will have to buy a new TV. Sony XDR is company's own version of what Samsung calls HDR.
Sony was one of the first companies to support Android TV and its X900C series of TV feature this brand new TV operating system. It is not the cheapest solution around.
Sony X900C should be the thinnest TV. It measures 0.2 inches or 0.508 cm and should be thinner than any phone to the market. iPhone 6 looks fat by comparison as it is 0.28 mm inch or 7.1 mm thick.
Kazuo pointed out the importance of Sony image sensor business how Sony's Alpha camera business is successful in Europe. The company has some cool products including the new Xperia X5 premium, Z5 and compact which impresses us with its specs. One will argue that 4K for phone is too much but this is exactly why Sony offers 4K, 1080p 5.2 inch and 720p with 4.6 inch design with compact.
